Derrick Cohan is a Los Angeles-based cinematographer and AFI graduate, whose work has taken him around the world shooting feature films, documentaries, commercials and music videos. Born in New York City and raised in Arizona, as a child Derrick would escape the summer heat by watching films with his movie-buff grandfather. It was during these long summers watching Hollywood’s greatest motion picture masterpieces that Derrick developed a love and appreciation for the art of expressing stories visually.
Pursuing an education that would only feed his passion for cinematography, Derrick graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies, and then moved to Los Angeles where he attended the American Film Institute Conservatory, earning his Masters in Cinematography.
In 2018 Derrick wrapped his first narrative feature ADVERSE which stars Mickey Rourke, Sean Astin and Thomas Ian Nicholas, and is slated for release in 2019. He currently has three short films playing in festivals around the world: The Inheritance, The CNO and En Ik Van Jou (Won’t Forget You) - which was shot in Holland. Some of Derrick’s commercial clients include Kylie Jenner, Kylie Cosmetics, KKW Beauty, TOMS, and William Wolf Whiskey.
Derrick is always looking to collaborate, and create lasting relationships with other artists and filmmakers.
